In line with national plans to elevate the generation of players and encourage them to read, the Mleiha Cultural and Sports Club, in cooperation with the Gulf Arabic Language Educational Center, organized an introductory workshop for the reading festival "I am an athlete... I read," which will begin at the start of next March.

Continuing its aim to address the players' passion for reading and to encourage the sports community to read, learn, and take the initiative to participate in the reading festival organized by the Mleiha Cultural and Sports Club for the 6 clubs of the central region of the Emirate of Sharjah.

The Mleiha Cultural and Sports Club, in cooperation with the Gulf Arabic Language Educational Center, organized an introductory workshop for the “I am an athlete.. I read” reading festival, which will be launched at the beginning of next March as part of the country’s reading activities and in line with national reading plans to achieve its goals of producing generations of readers who are familiar with books and knowledge.

The workshop was held yesterday, Friday, at the headquarters of the Mleiha Club, where it was presented by Dr. Issa Al Hammadi, Director of the Educational Center for the Arabic Language for the Gulf States, the strategic partner of the festival, in the presence of Mohammed Sultan Al Khasouni, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mleiha Cultural and Sports Club, members of the Board of Directors, and representatives of the sports and specialized clubs participating in the festival from the central region of the Emirate of Sharjah, under the umbrella of the Sharjah Sports Council.

The reading festival is being held in strategic partnership with the Gulf Arabic Language Educational Center in Sharjah, the Emirates Heritage Club, Al Qasimi Publications, the Sharjah Government Department of Culture, Khansaheb Group, and a number of specialized entities, in addition to the participation of 6 clubs: Al Madam Sports Club, Al Bataeh Sports Club, Al Dhaid Sports Club, Mleiha Sports Club, Sharjah Falconers Club, and Sharjah Camel Racing Club, with an expected participation of 1,500 athletes of different age groups.

At the beginning of the workshop, Mohammed Sultan Al-Khasouni, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mleiha Club, welcomed the partners, participating clubs and their representatives, stressing that the festival will be held at the beginning of next March at the club’s headquarters, and will include a book fair, along with accompanying workshops and a competition in two categories in the field of reading for players registered in the 6 clubs and sports federations, and a general knowledge competition for the clubs, noting that the club has increased the monetary prizes for the winners of the competition, in addition to allocating an award for cultural facilitators in the clubs, an award for the best participating club with a number of players, and an award for the best winning club in the festival categories.

Dr. Issa Al Hammadi, Director of the Gulf Arabic Language Educational Center, spoke at the workshop, reviewing the festival’s categories and objectives, which are consistent with the Sharjah Cultural Project, with the aim of raising the generation of players and inviting them to read in order to achieve the festival’s slogan “I am an athlete.. I read,” to employ reading in the life of every player from a young age, through his participation in various sports programs and competitions, which are reflected in his behavior and performance.
