The Mleiha Cultural and Sports Club hosted the UAE Open Obstacle Course Championship 2026, organized by the UAE Modern Pentathlon Federation, with the participation of more than 60 male and female players from various clubs, institutions and sports bodies, in the first obstacle course championship to be held on the club’s obstacle course.
The championship witnessed a distinctive competitive atmosphere amidst a prominent official and sporting presence, as participants competed in the under-15 boys and general categories for men and women, presenting technical levels that reflected the growing development of obstacle course sports in the UAE.
The championship was attended by Sheikh Suhail bin Butti Al Maktoum, Assistant Undersecretary for the Sports Development and Competitiveness Sector at the Ministry of Sports and Chairman of the UAE Committee for the Care of Sports Talents and Support of National Sports, Dr. Huda Abdulrahman Al Matroushi, President of the UAE Modern Pentathlon Federation, Adnan Mahmoud Al Hashemi, Assistant Secretary-General, Ahmed Al Badi, Head of the Referees Committee, Ahmed Al Janahi, Head of the Events Committee, and members of the Federation’s Board of Directors.
Also present from the Mleiha Cultural and Sports Club were His Excellency Mohammed Sultan Khusouni Al Ketbi, Chairman of the Board, Abdul Rahman Muhair Al Ketbi, Board Member and Chairman of the Media and Corporate Communication Committee, and Mansour Rashid Al Ketbi, Executive Director of the Club.
Dr. Huda Abdulrahman Al Matroushi, President of the UAE Modern Pentathlon Federation, confirmed that holding the championship at the Mleiha Club represents an important step in the development of obstacle course sports in the country, praising the technical and organizational preparations provided by the club to make the event a success.
Al Matroushi thanked the Mleiha Cultural and Sports Club for hosting and organizing the first obstacle course championship at the club, stressing that the fruitful cooperation between the federation and sports clubs contributes to supporting the spread of the game and attracting more promising sports talents.
She said that the federation continues to work on spreading the sport of modern pentathlon and obstacle courses and attracting more participants, in line with the state’s directions in supporting the sports sector and discovering national talents, stressing that effective sports partnerships contribute to raising the level of sports competition in the country.
For his part, Adnan Mahmoud Al Hashemi, Assistant Secretary-General of the UAE Modern Pentathlon Federation, explained that the championship witnessed the participation of more than 60 male and female players, which reflects the increasing interest in obstacle course sports in the country.
Al Hashemi pointed out that this broad participation supports the vision and strategy of the UAE in promoting the practice of sports and spreading the culture of physical activity among different segments of society, in addition to discovering and refining sporting talents capable of representing the country in upcoming sporting events.
Mansour Rashid Al Ketbi, Executive Director of Mleiha Cultural and Sports Club, confirmed that hosting the first obstacle course championship at the club comes within the club’s strategy to support quality sports and host specialized championships, noting that the club is keen to provide an integrated sports environment that keeps pace with the aspirations of sports federations and contributes to the success of various sports and community events.
